Nasal Spray Storage: Keeping Pre-Mixed Peptide Sprays Cold, Dark and Closed
11 Oct 2026

Nasal spray storage follows different rules from a vial of powder, because the peptide inside has been in solution since the day the bottle was filled.
Most SHLabz products arrive as lyophilised powder, which is stable at room temperature when sealed, dry and out of direct light. A pre-mixed nasal spray is another material altogether. It holds a solution from filling, so every concern that applies to a reconstituted vial applies to it from the start.
This article covers storage only: temperature, light, orientation, closure and contamination, plus why these products ship within the UAE alone. It contains no instructions for use and makes no claims about what any compound does.
Why a Pre-Mixed Spray Is Different
Water drives most peptide degradation. Akbarian and Chen, reviewing instability in pharmaceutical proteins, note that powder forms avoid hydrolysis pathways, in-solution decomposition and the air–water interactions that agitation causes. A solution, by contrast, offers none of that protection.
In solution, several chemical routes stay open. Methionine, for example, is the residue most susceptible to oxidation, while deamidation slowly converts asparagine and glutamine side chains. Warmth speeds most of these reactions, which is why temperature sits at the top of the list.
Nasal Spray Storage Temperature: 2–8°C From Arrival
Pre-mixed sprays need 2–8°C from the day they arrive. That is a genuine requirement rather than a precaution, and it marks the main difference from a sealed vial of powder.
So put the bottle in the fridge as soon as the delivery arrives. A shelf in the main body of the fridge usually holds a steadier temperature than the door, which warms each time someone opens it. Likewise, return the bottle promptly after any check or stock count, rather than leaving it on a bench.
Why Freezing Is Not the Answer
Colder is not better here. Freezing a solution forms ice–water interfaces, shifts buffer pH and concentrates solutes, and Jain and colleagues linked each of those changes to protein aggregation. In their work, aggregation also rose multifold with additional freeze–thaw cycles.
Regulators take temperature swings seriously too. The FDA’s guidance on nasal spray products asks manufacturers to run cycling studies between freezer temperatures and 40°C, to mimic shipping and handling. Therefore, keep sprays out of the freezer compartment and away from the back wall of a fridge, where items sometimes freeze.
Light, Orientation and Closure
Light is the next variable. Akbarian and Chen describe UV radiation damaging proteins both directly and through reactive oxygen species. Indeed, the ICH Q1B guideline sets out how manufacturers test light exposure for both substances and finished products. In practice, keep the bottle in its outer carton or another dark container inside the fridge.
Orientation matters more than most people expect. The same FDA guidance states that the stability of nasal products can be affected by storage in different orientations, and it asks manufacturers to study upright alongside inverted or horizontal storage. Without data for a particular product, upright is the sensible default, because it keeps the solution away from the closure.
Finally, keep the cap on. The cap protects the nozzle from dust and contact, and a closed bottle also limits exposure to air.
Contamination and Clean Handling
A solution can support microbial growth in a way a dry powder cannot. Unsurprisingly, the FDA guidance treats microbial limits as part of the specification for these products, including total aerobic count and total yeast and mould count. Some formulations include a preservative for that reason, although no preservative excuses careless handling.
- Keep the nozzle covered. Replace the cap straight away after any inspection.
- Avoid contact. Never touch the nozzle tip or let it rest on a surface.
- Leave the contents where they are. Decanting into another container exposes the solution to air, new surfaces and possible contamination.
- Watch for change. Cloudiness, particles or a colour shift suggest the solution has changed, so set that bottle aside and note it in your records.
Why Nasal Sprays Ship Within the UAE Only
Nasal spray storage also explains the shipping rule. Because a pre-mixed spray needs 2–8°C throughout, it genuinely requires cold shipping. Every UAE order travels with cold-chain delivery. Sealed lyophilised powder does not require cold chain. SHLabz holds the whole range to it anyway, because it removes a variable and the handling difference is small.
Pre-mixed nasal sprays, however, do not cross the GCC at all. SHLabz ships its pens and nasal sprays within the UAE only, while sealed vials and topicals (serum and hair spray) travel to the wider region in 3–5 working days. Our article on UAE heat and peptide delivery covers the summer side of this.
Where SHLabz Fits
SHLabz lists pre-mixed nasal sprays of Semax, Selank, KPV, Epithalon and DSIP, alongside CJC-1295 with Ipamorelin, PT-141 and MT-2. All of them sit together in the nasal spray range.
Meanwhile, the nasal spray peptides article explains how the format compares with vials. SHLabz tests through an independent laboratory and publishes certificates by batch on the lab results page as they are issued.
The Short Version
In short, nasal spray storage starts the moment the bottle arrives: 2–8°C, upright, capped and out of the light. A pre-mixed spray holds a solution from filling, so it lacks the room-temperature tolerance of sealed powder.
Equally, do not freeze it, do not decant it, and set aside any bottle that turns cloudy or changes colour. Because the format needs cold shipping throughout, SHLabz delivers its nasal sprays within the UAE only.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do peptide nasal sprays need refrigerating? Yes. A pre-mixed spray holds a solution from filling, so it needs 2–8°C from arrival. That differs from sealed lyophilised powder, which is stable at room temperature.
Can I freeze a nasal spray to make it last longer? No. Freezing creates ice interfaces and concentrates solutes, which published work links to aggregation, and it can also stress the bottle. Keep it at 2–8°C instead.
Should a nasal spray bottle be stored upright? Upright is the sensible default. FDA guidance notes that orientation can affect the stability of nasal products, and upright storage keeps the solution away from the closure.
Does light affect a nasal spray? It can. Light can damage peptides directly and through reactive oxygen species, so keep the bottle in its carton or another dark container inside the fridge.
Can SHLabz ship nasal sprays outside the UAE? No. Nasal sprays need 2–8°C throughout transit, so SHLabz ships them, like pens, within the UAE only. Sealed vials and topicals (serum and hair spray) do travel across the GCC.
